Budapest, 1957, one year after the uprising against the Communist regime was crushed. A Jewish boy, Andor, grows up with his mother’s idealised stories of the father who disappeared in the war.

His image of family and his own origins collapses when a brutal man appears claiming to be his real father. László Nemes approaches historical trauma through the immediate perspective of a child forced to decide whom to believe as personal memory, wartime secrets and post-war reality collide.
