The complete four-day festival lineup and schedule have been announced
The festival begins at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, with the Educational Morning program in the Versatile Hall of the Providur's Palace and aims to educate young people about the tragedy of the Holocaust in a way they can understand. After screening the film "One Life", students will have the first-hand opportunity to hear the testimony of Holocaust survivor Vesna Domana Hardy. This program takes place in cooperation with the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the Republic of Croatia.
The protocol for the Opening Ceremony is scheduled for the same day, Thursday, September 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Croatian National Theater in Zadar, where the audience and guests will be welcomed by Branko Dukić, MD, the Mayor of the City of Zadar, and the representative of the Festival’s main sponsor, followed by the representatives of the organizers: Nataša Popović, director of the Jewish Film Festival Zagreb and Andrej Fric, head of Alliance of Independent Culture Zadar (Kino Zona), as well as the film program curators Snježana Tribuson, Boško Picula and artistic advisor Dina Pokrajac.
The festival kicks off at 8:00 pm with a screening of the film "Loveable" (2024) directed by Lilja Ingolfsdottir from Norway, which won the Special Jury Prize and the Best Actress Award at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
THE PROVIDUR’S PALACE:
Educational programs for children and young people take place in the Versatile Hall of the Providur's Palace at 11:00 a.m. on the following Festival days - Friday, September 27, Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29. The sessions start with a film screening and are followed by post-screening discussions exploring the topics raised by the film. The program focuses on films accompanied by Tolerance Talk debates with relevant professionals starting at 6:30 p.m. In order to foster cultural exchange and ultimately create a more accepting and open society, the audience also takes part in the discussions, which plays a significant role in forming public opinion. We are introducing the subjects of refugee integration and peer violence prevention this year.
The films that the audience will be able to see at the Providur's Palace include the Oscar-nominated films "Red, White and Blue" about abortion rights, The "ABC's of Book Banning" about book censorships in certain schools of the US, "In The Rearview" about Ukrainian refugees, Sisterhood, a film that raises the topic of peer violence prevention and "Sugarcane", a documentary about institutional child abuse awarded at the Sundance Film Festival.
THE RECTOR’S PALACE:
The Bersa Brothers Concert Hall in the Rector's Palace will host screenings of audience favorites on Friday and Saturday. These include Memoir of a Snail, the animated film that delighted the audience at the Annecy Festival and the five-award-winning French César sci-fi allegory Animal Kingdom, as well as the intricate drama December May starring two outstanding Oscar winners Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore. The British film To a Land Unknown, about Palestinian refugees on their difficult journey into the unknown, and the film 999 The Forgotten Girls, which tells the story of 999 girls on the first train to Auschwitz from a female viewpoint, are both on Sunday at the festival. In addition to the short and impactful Croatian films Žarko, You Will Spoil the Child and Short Cut Grass, there will also be a screening of the film In Transit, which follows migrants as they travel and face an uncertain future.
On Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, from 5 p.m. the Festival Market - a program dedicated to other film festivals, interacting, networking and exchanging opinions – will take place in the Rector’s Palace Multimedia Hall. The Salaam Film Festival, an innovative Danish film festival for education and the Rab Film Festival (RAFF), one of the newest and highly successful domestic festivals will be showcased.
